How to get ahead of the competition with agile

Introduction

Agile has grown in popularity in recent years and is now a mainstream way of working in many organisations.

This presentation was first delivered during the financial crisis in 2013. However, in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, and with remote working now set to become the ‘new normal’ for the foreseeable future, the ideas discussed by Keith several years ago, are even more pertinent today than when this presentation was first delivered.

What we are observing at agileKRC, is that people are still interested in learning about agile and gaining agile certification. That is why many people are considering PRINCE2 Agile courses or Agile Project Management courses to help them upskill.

Presentation

In this presentation Keith Richards, Founder of agileKRC and the Lead Author for Agile Project Management (AgilePM) and PRINCE2 Agile discusses how to use agile in order to get ahead of the competition.

The topics covered include:

  • What exactly is agile?
  • The key questions to answer.
  • Why everyone has to change.
  • Traditional thinking.
  • Agile thinking.
  • What you need to do right now.
  • Three things to do that will make a difference.

How to get ahead with Agile methodologies

How to get ahead with Agile involves adopting Agile methodologies and Agile frameworks. Agile processes and Agile methods emphasise continuous improvement, flexibility, and rapid delivery. Agile project managers and product owners use the Agile manifesto and Agile principles to guide Agile development. Scrum, Extreme Programming, Lean, Kanban, DSDM, and feature driven development are Agile frameworks that support collaborative work. Dynamic Systems Development Method, adaptive software development, and Agile project management provide structure for Agile teams.

Agile alliance and Agile transformation strategies

The Agile alliance promotes Agile practices, Agile tips, and Agile strategies for achieving more with Agile. Agile transformation and advancing in Agile require Agile coaching, leadership, and a focus on business agility. Project management tools like Jira and Trello, using a Kanban board or Gantt chart, help track work, backlog, user stories, and sprints. Agile techniques such as sprint planning, daily meetings, and regular retrospectives enhance communication, review, and feedback.

Agile methods compared to Waterfall project management

Agile methods and methodologies, compared to Waterfall project management or Waterfall method, allow organisations to adapt quickly. Agile practices are used across industries for incremental delivery, continuous delivery, and continuous improvement. Managers, developers, and ScrumMasters collaborate to deliver value to customers, align with business strategy, and optimise the process. Organising teams, setting clear goals, and maintaining a healthy work pace are essential for succeeding with Agile, getting ahead in Agile, and improving with Agile.

Mastering Agile processes and best practices

Agile processes foster innovation, creativity, and a culture of learning. Analytics, automation, and integrated apps on platforms like Confluence enable data-driven decisions. Agile methodology enables teams to prioritise tasks, visualise progress, and respond to changing requirements. By focusing on best practices, Agile transformation, and adopting a flexible project management methodology, organisations can get ahead with Agile, achieve high-quality results, and master Agile methods.
