About Agile Project Management certification

AgilePM is the world’s leading guidance and Agile Project Management certification.

In 2010 AgilePM was developed by APMG International in conjunction with the Agile Business Consortium. AgilePM is based upon Agile Business Consortium’s Agile Project Framework.

Since 2011, over 120,000 Agile Project Management (AgilePM) exams have been taken.

AgilePM has 2 qualifications: Foundation and Practitioner.

AgilePM Foundation

The AgilePM Foundation-level qualification measures whether a candidate has sufficient knowledge and understanding of Agile project management to recognize and distinguish between the approach’s key elements. The Foundation qualification is also a pre-requisite for the Practitioner qualification.

This qualification is for

  • Practising project managers.
  • Agile team members wishing to become Agile Project Managers.

A successful AgilePM Foundation student will learn:

  • The key principles and terminology within the Agile Management Foundation guidance.
  • The underpinning philosophy and principles of Agile.
  • The lifecycle of an Agile project, including alternative configurations.
  • The products produced during an Agile project and their purpose.
  • The techniques used and their benefits and limitations.
  • The roles and responsibilities within an Agile project.

AgilePM Practitioner

The AgilePM Practitioner-level qualification measures whether a candidate has sufficient knowledge and understanding of Agile project management to apply it to working contexts and tailor their approaches to any given scenario.

Succesful candidates will be able to demonstrate their competence and begin working as an Agile project manager on non-complex projects.

This qualification is for

  • Practising project managers.
  • Agile team members wishing to become Agile Project Managers.

A successful AgilePM Practitioner student will be able to:

  • Apply the underpinning philosophy and principles of the Agile Project Framework in a working project.
  • Configure the lifecycle of an Agile project to any given scenario.
  • Produce and evaluate the content of Agile products produced in any given scenario.
  • Apply the following Agile techniques (Facilitated Workshops; MoSCoW prioritisation; Iterative Development; Modelling; Timeboxing) in an agile project.
  • Identify Agile techniques to be used for any given situation within a scenario.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities within an Agile project and correctly determine the appropriate personnel to fulfil these roles.
  • Understand the mechanisms for control specific to Agile projects.

AgilePM courses are based upon the AgilePM Agile Project Management Handbook v2.

The handbook describes a practical and repeatable methodology that achieves a balance between the standards, rigour and visibility required for good project management, and the fast-pace, change and empowerment provided by Agile.

The handbook is based on the Agile Business Consortium's Agile Project Framework (established for over 20 years).

The handbook brings together the many different elements found in a project but in an Agile context. These are:

  • Principles (the behaviours).
  • People (roles and responsibilities).
  • Process (the life cycle).
  • Products (what is produced and when).
  • Practices (timeboxing, modelling, iterative development, prioritization and facilitated workshops).

In short, it offers a structured and scalable corporate Agile framework based on proven practice.
