Course Overview

This accredited training course was launched in 2011 by APMG and the DSDM Consortium to address the need to run projects in an agile way. Agile project management provides numerous benefits to organisations, such as better product quality, higher customer satisfaction, improved performance visibility, and increased project control.

This course covers the theory behind agile project management, and provides an interactive practical experience of the techniques and disciplines involved. You will receive a copy of the Agile Project Management handbook and take the Foundation and Practitioner exams on the third and fourth day.

Course Objectives

On this course, you will gain a practical understanding of how to use agile behaviours and techniques at scale. As agile grew in popularity there was a rising demand to scale agile to suit larger organisations, but a lot of the success of agile is with small, co-located teams; this course is designed to show you how to implement agile on a larger scale.

You will learn how to be agile at a larger scale by wrapping agile project management disciplines around the delivery aspects of agile. This allows you to ‘be agile’ in more complex environments where stricter governance or compliance is needed such as it is with most large organisations today.

This course equips you with the in-depth knowledge to apply and implement agile principles into your role as a project manager on a daily basis. You will learn how the agile project management process can support and enable the planning, management, and controls needed to improve the chances of a successful agile project.

By becoming certified this course helps you to stay current within your own organisation and in today’s fast moving marketplace.

"I have NEVER rated a course 10/10 for every aspect before!  Excellent content, excellent delivery, superb value and real business benefit.  Thank you". Simon Lees, Adapt, Head of Projects and Programmes

Who will benefit from this course?

This course is beneficial for Project Managers (and their community in general), who are looking to add to their knowledge of traditional approaches or anyone who is operating in an agile environment and needs to be able to run projects in more complex and scalable situations.

Is there any pre-course reading?

Pre-course reading in not essential, but we do advise that some reading would be beneficial. If you intend to do some pre-course preparation, we would recommend spending about 3-5 hours reading the AgilePM Handbook. You can request to have your handbook sent to you in advance, or you can collect it on the first day of your course. You will be sent the handbook two weeks before the course starts, but you can request to receive your copy earlier if required.

"Make this your first choice when looking for agile training  courses for your people". Chris Varley, Senior Project Manager

Should I go for Foundation only or Practitioner?

Our advice is to consider your reasons for going on the course and what you aim to achieve. The teaching takes place during the first three days of the course, and you will take the Foundation exam at the end of day three. The Practitioner exam is taken on day four. You will spend the morning of day four preparing for the Practitioner exam, which will be taken after lunch.

If you are attending the course because you just need to understand and learn about agile project management, for example, or you are about to begin working on a project using agile and require some training first, or you are working with a client who uses agile so you need some help in this area, then attending the first 3 days to Foundation level may be sufficient for you. However, if you want the Practitioner qualification to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to your clients, improve your CV credentials, get a promotion, or to win more contracts, then the Practitioner qualification is definitely right for you.
